The shelterless took out a padayatra from Ibrahimpatnam to Sub-Collector’s office here on Tuesday demanding the government to issue house site pattas to them. More than 100 people took part in the padyatra organised under aegis of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Ibrahimpatnam mandal culminated into a dharna near the Sub-Collector’s office.
Addressing the gathering, CPI(M) district secretary R. Raghu said that the High Court, in its recent judgment, has directed the government to distribute the 35 acre land which is in possession of Mallela Ananta Padmanabha Rao to the eligible. The poor and shelterless were demanding the government to provide housing sites for them.
However, there was no response from the government.
The CPI (M) took up a survey, and found that there was surplus land in Ibrahimpatam.The party has been waging struggle since December 2012, he said, adding, the people moved High Court.
The Court in its judgment on September 3 asked the government to distribute the 35 acre. About 1,300 people would be benefited if the land was distributed, he added.
MLC Boddu Nageswara Rao and the CPI(M) leaders submitted a memorandum to Sub-Collector Dasari Harichandana urging her to initiate the land distribution process.
