The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday refused to grant bail to the former Minister G. Janardhan Reddy in the case of illegal mining involving Associated Mining Company owned by him.
Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das pronounced the order sitting at the Dharwad Circuit Bench of the High Court while dismissing Mr. Reddy’s petition. The matter was heard at the Principal Bench, Bangalore.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which had investigated the case based on the Supreme Court’s direction, had filed a charge sheet against him.
The CBI had opposed the bail plea contending that investigation was on in other illegal mining and illegal export of mined ore cases referred to it by the Supreme Court recently and custody of Mr. Reddy was essential in these cases too.
The High Court accepted the CBI’s contentions and rejected the petition.
