The cordial relationship and the common perspective shared by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government (UPA) at the Centre and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Government in the State has enabled Tamil Nadu to emerge in the forefront in all sectors, the Union Shipping Minister G.K. Vasan said on Saturday.

The special schemes devised by the Centre and the DMK governments for Tamil Nadu had taken the State in the path of development, Mr. Vasan said while campaigning at Musiri for the Congress candidate M. Rajasekaran.

The Congress-led UPA Government with DMK support had been providing a people's government and both had implemented various welfare schemes.

It had waived farm loans amounting to crores of rupees, he said adding that the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme had benefitted lakhs of poor families across the State.

Every scheme implemented by the DMK Government reflected the aspirations of the people and aimed at their welfare, the Union Minister said.

If the schemes of the Central and State were to reach the Musiri Assembly constituency, an MLA with a common viewpoint was needed. Every vote for the Congress candidate representing Musiri would be a vote for development, Mr. Vasan remarked.
