Apart from routing the Left Front in the Assembly elections by winning 226 out of 294 seats, the Congress-Trinamool Congress combine has increased its vote percentage substantially over the Left Front in comparison to the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
According to figures made available by the Election Commission, the alliance has secured 48.54 per cent votes — 7.42 percentage points more than the Left Front's vote share of 41.12 per cent.
The Congress-Trinamool alliance and the Left Front had secured 44.64 per cent (1,90,55,867) and 43.28 per cent votes (1,84,76,369) in the Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress-Trinamool alliance performed best in the Kolkata South district with 60.29 per cent votes where the Left Front's performance was most dismal at 29.85 per cent votes. The three districts where the Left Front could outmanoeuvre the Congress-Trinamool alliance were Cooch Behar with 45.78 per cent, Jalpaiguri with 39.96 per cent and Uttar Dinajpur with 42.40 per cent.
