NEW DELHI: The Congress has urged the Election Commission to cancel transfer orders issued to officials by the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh after February15.

The officials were posted in new places on the recommendations of Bahujan Samaj Party candidates and district convenors to “ensure the victory of the candidates,” it alleged.

A Congress delegation led by senior leader Digvijay Singh met the Election Commissioners here on Tuesday and urged the commission to direct the State government to reinstate 20,000 police personnel as ordered by the Allahabad High Court.

If this was done, the Commission would get extra police force for the elections.
