The Congress high command is said to be not having any immediate plan to change the Chief Minister of Kerala as it has not received any adverse report against Oomen Chandy or his family vis-à-vis the solar scam that has got the Opposition in the State demanding his ouster.

Informed sources said the Opposition was trying to drag in Mr. Chandy and his family members to take political advantage in the next Lok Sabha election.

Mr. Chandy, who was here on Saturday to participate in a meeting on food security convened by the Congress, met party president Sonia Gandhi and explained the happenings in the State.

Later, he told journalists that Ms. Gandhi wanted to see a united Congress. He replied in the negative when asked whether the top leadership was considering a leadership change in the State.

Meanwhile, sources in the Indian Union Muslim League, a constituent of the ruling United Democratic Front, said the party did not go by the Opposition’s allegation that Mr. Chandy was involved in the scam. “Why should we jump the gun when a probe in to the matter is on,” they asked.

The sources maintained that it was time the unity of the UDF was maintained to take on the challenges of the Left Democratic Front.

Mr. Chandy returned to Thiruvananthapuram in the evening.
