A bus conductor in H.D. Kote committed suicide by consuming poison after a show-cause notice was issued to him by an inspection squad, consequent to which the drivers and conductors in the region resorted to a snap strike.

G.M. Manjappa (26) was on duty when the checking staff intercepted the bus which was proceeding from G.M. Halli to H.D. Kote. The team allegedly found discrepancies in the accounts and issued a notice to the conductor.

He reached the H.D. Kote bus depot and discussed the issue with his colleagues who asked him to take it easy, but Manjappa collapsed soon after. It was suspected that he had consumed poison and was immediately taken to H.D. Kote hospital from where he was rushed to the K.R. Hospital in Mysore. However, Manjappa died on the way. As news of his death spread, drivers and conductors resorted to a strike and all services of the KSRTC were affected. They demanded compensation and appointment on compassionate grounds to any of the surviving family members of the deceased.
