The Maharashtra government on Saturday announced compensation for the families of the villagers killed in crossfire during a police-Naxal encounter on Friday in Dhanora taluk in Gadchiroli district.

Prithviraj Chavan, State Chief Minister said Rs. 10 lakh (Rs. 3.5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s fund and the remaining according to Central norms) would be given to the kith and kin of Kalidas Hidko and Sukhdev Gawade, the two youths from Sindhesur village in Dhanora, who died during the encounter, in which totally seven persons died.

The duo were used as human shields by the Maoists, allege the villagers of Sindhesur.
