The Communist Marxist Party (CMP) will hold its eighth party congress in Kottayam from Saturday to October 16.
The party congress will begin with a massive rally on Saturday and during the course of the next four days, the party will deliberate on several national and State issues, according to G. Sugunan, CMP politburo member.
The significance of the eighth party congress is that it is being held against the backdrop of developments taking place in national politics. The CMP had been the main target of the CPI(M) for nearly 25 years of its existence but the party had survived the politics of violence admirably, he said.
The party is expected to re-evaluate its role in Kerala politics and its position in the UDF, sources said.
