Mathew Thomas, physician and managing director of Health Research Centre (HRC), has welcomed any inquiry by the government into the activities and clinical trials conducted at the Centre.

At a press conference here on Saturday, Dr. Thomas said he wanted the government to institute an expert committee to look into all clinical trials being conducted in various medical institutions across the State and to ascertain if any unethical practices were being encouraged in any institution.

Reacting to some news reports which appeared in a section of the media, which had alleged that Dr. Thomas was indulging in unethical clinical trials at HRC, he said that all clinical trials conducted at his institution were strictly in accordance with the guidelines of the Indian Council for Medical Research and the Drugs Control General of India and that any investigating agency was welcome to examine all documents regarding the same.
