Kochouseph Chittilappilly, industrialist and social activist, has approached the Supreme Court seeking the court’s intervention to control the spurt in Central and State government advertisements in the media extolling achievements.

Mr.Chittilappilly said the practice conferred undue advantage to the role of propaganda machinery for the respective governments in view of the impending general elections.

Such advertisements are not in public interest and squander away public money that can instead be used for development activities, he claimed in a writ petition which came up before the Chief Justice’s court, he said. The court declined intervention at the present and permitted him to withdraw the petition with liberty to approach again at a later stage. Mr.Chittilappilly said that he would pursue the case after the elections.
