Indiramma Baata to be held in October third or fourth week

Congress MP K. Chiranjeevi will be inducted into the Union Cabinet when it is expanded shortly, according to Minister for Infrastructure and Ports Ganta Srinivasa Rao.

“The expansion was due last month, but it was postponed due to certain political developments. It will happen in the second or third week of October and I hope Mr. Chiranjeevi will get some key portfolio,” the Minister said, talking to media persons who met him here on Saturday.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao revealed that Indiramma Baata of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy slated to be held from October 9 to 11 in the district would now be conducted in the third or fourth week of the month.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the prestigious Visakha Utsav this year would be held on a grand scale in the third week of December. The annual festival which was a big draw for tourists of north Andhra, Orissa and the neighbourhood, could not be held for certain reasons during the past few years.

“A committee with the District Collector, Joint Collector, GVMC Commissioner and VUDA Vice-Chairman was formed for the purpose. We also will ensure that the dates do not clash with the World Telugu Conference in Tirupati from October 27,” he said.

The Minister said that Araku festival slated for mid-October would focus on the cultural heritage of tribals and the millions of years old Borra Caves in the agency.
