Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has written to Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Salman Khurshid urging him to help Keralites make use of the amnesty announced by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for those who have overstayed in the country.
The Chief Minister said the UAE government had permitted those staying in the UAE after expiry of their visas to return to their countries without paying penalty between December 4 and February 3.
A large percentage of Indians in the UAE were Keralites. Many of them could be overstaying, and they should be able to make use of the opportunity. The State government was willing to provide all help in this regard, the Chief Minister said in his letter to Mr. Khurshid.
