What are the rights and privileges of an MLC? This question was posed to the Chairman by K. Dileep Kumar in the Legislative Council in the form of a petition on Friday.
Narrating an incident where he was allegedly humiliated by a magistrate, Mr. Dileep Kumar said he had asked him in the presence of everyone whether an MLC was above the law.
“I was neither an accused nor a witness in any case. Yet, I was asked this question. Can a magistrate insult an MLC?” he asked.
Reiterating that the remark was an insult to the entire House and related to the dignity of the elders in the House, he said the entire House supported the petition submitted by him to the Chairman.
He also urged the Chairman to send the petition to the Chief Justice of High Court. Chairman A. Chakrapani offered to examine the petition.
