20 companies participating in the event organised by SIAM and CII

The 2 {+n} {+d} Bus and Special Vehicles Expo kicked off here on Wednesday with 20 companies participating in the event that is aimed as a platform for automotive manufacturers to showcase their products.

Organised by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the expo has on display, the Divo coach, the latest luxury air-conditioned bus from Tata Motors and a sleeper coach by Isuzu, apart from the Volvo 9400 XL.

Tata Motors had most of its latest products on display. They include an electric/compressed natural gas (CNG) hybrid bus, an Interceptor Van on the Winger platform to be used by the police and transport departments, a Winger ambulance, Starbus 42 and the Starbus school bus, both air-conditioned and a smaller CNG Starbus.

Inaugurating the Expo, Major Industries Minister J. Geetha Reddy said Andhra Pradesh was at the forefront of industrial development and creating infrastructure to ensure a win-win situation for stakeholders.

The Indian automotive industry occupied a prominent place on the canvas of the national economy, she said.

Andhra Pradesh offered a distinctive advantage to the industry on the strength of its central location and a large pool of technical talent.

Automotive parks

To promote automotive clusters, the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation was developing exclusive automotive parks near Toopran and Chevella near the State capital and at Naidupet in Nellore district, she said, inviting prospective investors to consider AP their destination.

She recalled that AP was the second largest power hub in India and that the industrial power tariff was the lowest in the country.

Public transport

Executive Director, Association of State Road Transport Undertakings, U. Sudhakar, in his special address, underscored the need to promote public transport system and to ensure road connectivity to rural India.

Akash Passey, Chairman, Vehicle Classification, Sales Reporting & Analysis, SIAM, welcomed the gathering, while Jaydev Galla, Vice-Chairman, CII-Andhra Pradesh, delivered the concluding remarks.
