The former Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council and Congress leader B.R. Patil on Saturday criticised the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee's move to join hands with the Janata Dal (Secular) to capture power in zilla and taluk panchayats where no single party has secured a clear majority. He termed the decision as unilateral and suicidal.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Patil said JD (S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda, a Congress baiter, had tried to break the party after he became the Prime Minister with its support.

He said that some JD (S) leaders, under the leadership of Siddaramaiah, had left the party opposing Mr. Gowda's opportunism and nepotism.
