The Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK) has announced that they would give Rs. 5 lakh compensation to Nikhil, a two-and-a-half-year-old boy, who lost his forearm in tiger attack at Bellary zoo in October last year.

Nikhil, a native of Channapatna in Ramanagaram district, was visiting the zoo with his grandmother. He tried to feed a tiger at the enclosure with a bar of chocolate when the animal bit his forearm.

“We will soon decide whether to keep the money in Nikhil’s name as fixed deposit in a bank or hand it over to his parents to help secure his future,” ZAK Chairperson Maruthi Rao Pawar told presspersons here on Friday. Nikhil’s parents would be summoned to Mysore soon, he added. The governing council meeting of ZAK took the decision.
