The Bombay High Court on Wednesday denied permission to the Congress to hold a foundation day rally at Shivaji Park here on December 28.
The court pointed out that the park in Dadar lay in silence zone and permissions given to various organisations earlier had seen violation of noise pollution norms.
Mumbai Congress general secretary Dharmesh Vyas moved the court after the municipality refused permission. “We are yet to receive the complete order. Once we get a copy, we will decide on the future course of action,” he told The Hindu .
The court noted that past sanctions were misused and it would not grant permission to hold any political rally on the park.
Shivaji Park has witnessed several political rallies since Independence and has been hosting Shiv Sena’s annual Dussehra rally for the last 40 years. The Sena too had to seek the court’s permission to hold rally. The court had given the permission with certain constraints.
