Central Board of Direct Taxes Chairman Sudhir Chandra on Tuesday claimed that the Income Tax Department had “unearthed more than Rs.30,000 crore black money” in the last two years.

Talking to media persons after inaugurating the new office building of the Income Tax office in Sector 17 here, he disclosed that “India had identified 22 tax heavens abroad” and the Tax Information Exchange Agreement had been signed to get more information regarding cross-border transactions.

Mr. Chandra said that taxpayers with a net income of up to Rs.5 lakh would not have to file IT return from now on.
