A Bharatiya Janata Party worker was found killed in his office at Dharavi here on Monday morning. While the party apprehends that it was a political murder in retaliation for the success of the BJP-Shiv Sena-Republican Party of India alliance in the civic elections, the police say they are investigating the case.

Vasant Dhirajlal Zota (52), BJP worker and manager of the Dharavi Grain Dealers Association, was stabbed and killed, possibly on Sunday night, the police said.

“There were two stab injuries. He was found lying in a pool of blood in his office in the morning today [Monday] when the family and staff were searching for him. We are awaiting the post mortem report. We are not aware if he was a political worker,” Dhananjay Kulkarni, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone V, told The Hindu .

BJP spokesperson Atul Shah said: “We demand a thorough inquiry. This is the first time the Sena-BJP alliance has won all three seats in Dharavi in the civic elections. He [Zota] was one of the office-bearers and was instrumental in the success.”
