: The West Bengal unit of the BJP has urged the Election Commission to conduct Lok Sabha polls in the State in at least five phases with deployment of Central security forces from the date of filing of nomination papers.

Rahul Sinha, president of the party’s State unit, in a letter to Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath, said the deployment of Central security forces from the day of filing nomination papers was “imperative to rebuild faith in democracy.”

“After the way the ruling party threatened and attacked aspiring candidates and voters in the last local elections, Central security forces should be deployed in all districts right from the date of nomination,” he said.
