Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes Welfare Association has decided to take up ‘Chalo Assembly' programme on February 23 demanding regularisation of posts of 3,450 health assistants working on contract basis in the Medical and Health Department.
President of the association R. Krishnaiah said in a statement on Sunday that the contract employees were toiling for the department for the last nine years.
The contract staff had been fighting a legal battle for the last eight years, but the government talk that it would issue fresh notification by removing the existing staff had come as a shock to them.
Cross age limit
Most of the male health assistants have now crossed the upper age limit for employment and were not eligible for even applying for other jobs, he explained.
Regularisation of contract staff was not new Mr. Krishnaiah said it was done in various departments including Medical and Health in the past.
