The sitting MP from the reserved constituency in Manipur, Thangsho Baite, filed his nomination papers on Friday in the office of Collector T. Ranjit in Thoubal. He is the fifth candidate to file his papers for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary seat reserved for the tribal people.

He was accompanied by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam Gangmei, the sitting Lok sabha MP from the general seat, Meiyna Thokchom, and others.

The ruling Congress is fielding both the sitting MPs for the two Lok Sabha seats in the State.

Talking on the sidelines, some Congress leaders brushed aside the consensus candidate of the ten-party Left and Secular Alliance and candidates of other political parties saying that the Congress will win both the seats.
