Guwahati: A 12-hour Assam bandh jointly called by organizations of six communities of the State — Tai-Ahom, Tea-tribe, Moran, Matak, Koch-Rajbangshis and Chutiya — to protest the rejection of their demand by the Centre for inclusion in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs) disrupted normal life in upper and northern Assam districts and parts of lower Assam on Wednesday.

The bandh passed off peacefully barring some minor incidents. The bandh supporters burnt tyres and effigies of Union Tribal Affairs Minister P.R. Kyndiah at some places. Organisations representing the six communities have vowed to intensify their agitation.
