HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K. Rosaiah declared here on Sunday that every Self-Help Group (SHG) woman would be made a lakhier by 2014.
Speaking to a group of women and SHG members on the eve of the International Women's Day, he said “It is our commitment. It was the commitment of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. It was his desire and dream. No going back on that. We shall make every SHG woman a l akshaadikari. My government is fully committed to the welfare, security and prosperity of every woman in Andhra Pradesh,” he said.
He directed Rural Development Minister Vatti Vasanta Kumar to prepare an action plan to achieve the goal of making one crore SHG women lakhiers.
The State government would facilitate loans to the tune of Rs. 1 lakh crore to SHG women members by 2014 to bring one crore families out of poverty. He said the SHG movement in the State had brought in revolutionary change. Cumulatively Rs.23,475.20 crore of bank loans were given to SHGs in the State and described it as a great achievement as AP accounts for 50 per cent of bank linkages in the country.
He said that March 8 would be a historic day when Women's Reservation Bill would be passed.
