An exclusive wing will be set up at the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy for television, Minister for Cinema K.B.Ganesh Kumar has said.

Announcing the State television awards for 2011 here on Friday, Mr. Ganesh Kumar said that a panel had been appointed for submitting proposals to revise the cash prize for television awards.

He had accepted the proposal for doubling the cash component for television awards, but clearance of the Finance Department was imperative for implementing the proposal, he said.

The recommendations for enhancing the cinema subsidy too were awaiting the clearance of the Finance Department.

An SMS voting system had been envisaged for mega television serials, Mr. Kumar said.

The Minister said the jury had sought government initiative for attracting good technicians and artistes to the television industry.

The jury mooted an exclusive academy for improving the quality of the programmes being aired by the channels. The proliferation of entries and the increase in number of episodes were issues that needed to be addressed. A special section had been proposed for animation films and also a category to give awards for screenplay and dialogue.
