Sainik School, which celebrates its golden jubilee in September 2013, will begin yearlong celebrations from September 15 to mark the occasion.
Informing this at a press conference here on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner and chairman of the celebrations committee Shivayogi Kalasad said the Sainik School here was started on September 16, 1963.
Briefing on the events to be organised to mark the day, he said the programmes would be launched by paying homage to those who sacrificed their lives for the country.
Programmes to be held in the coming days included science and IT exhibitions, cycling expedition to historical locations of the State, lectures by eminent speakers, educational visits and visits to defence establishments and an alumni association meet, he said.
Mr. Kalasad said the Bijapur Sainik School, one of the 27 such schools in the country, had produced some of the best citizens who held prestigious positions in various fields, including defence.
Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and Deputy Chief of the Army Lt. Gen. Ramesh Halagali will launch the yearlong celebrations.
A logo of the golden jubilee programme was unveiled.
