Delegation from Srikakulam to meet top AICC functionaries
In a last ditch attempt to see that the resignation of Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao is not accepted, a delegation of Congress leaders from Srikakulam district plan to visit Delhi in a day or two to meet AICC functionaries.
The visit might coincide with the tour of APCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, to New Delhi to call on the party leadership in all likelihood on Tuesday.
To meet Azad, Ravi
Having failed to convince Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to go easy on the resignation of Mr. Prasada Rao, named A-5 in the CBI’s charge-sheet over land allotment to VANPIC, the Srikakulam leaders are pinning hopes on AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad and the party emissary Vayalar Ravi.
Notwithstanding the bleak chances of Mr. Prasada Rao retaining his Ministerial berth in the light of the strong evidence gathered by the CBI against him, the leaders resolve to make one final bid to protect him.
The delegation includes Srikakulam MP Killi Kripa Rani Congress MLAs and seniors from the district.
While the Srikakulam Congress leaders are fine tuning their Delhi tour, Mr. Satyanarayana is also scheduled to visit New Delhi. Sources said the high command summoned the APCC president on receiving his report to discuss the implications of accepting the resignation.
The Chief Minister, who is presently touring West Godavari district, is expected to send his own report after Monday.
Leaders point out that the Chief Minister himself is helpless in bailing out Mr. Prasada Rao, as the central leadership is not inclined to come to the rescue of Ministers facing cases.
Ministers call on Dharmana
Meanwhile, Minister Danam Nagender, former Minister T. Jeevan Reddy and CPI (M) leader Nomula Narasimhaiah and others met Mr. Prasada Rao at his residence.
