A day after its Polit Bureau decided to back the categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SCs), the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has asked all political parties in the State, particularly the Congress, YSR Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), to announce their stand on the issue.
Further, the TDP has demanded that the government pass a resolution in the next session of the Assembly in favour of sub-quota in SC reservation and mount pressure on the Centre to amend the Constitution to implement the sub-quota ensuring justice to all sub-castes in SCs.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, senior leader of TDP, Motkupalli Narasimhulu, alleged that it was former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy who had done injustice to ‘Madiga’ community. The government led by late YSR misled the Supreme Court by submitting false information on the socio-economic status of 59 sub-castes of SCs’ and helped it strike down the sub-quota, when the Madiga and other communities were enjoying the benefits of sub-quota.
The commitment of the three parties to the most downtrodden sections of the society, Madiga and other communities of SCs, would be known only when they announce their stand on the categorisation of SCs, the TDP leader said. The Assembly had already passed a resolution in favour of categorisation thrice but there was nothing wrong in doing it again to bring pressure on the Centre, he felt.
On the TDP’s stand on Telangana, Mr. Narasimhulu said their party was always in favour of Telangana and they were ready to give a letter specifying their stand again whenever it was necessary.
