‘There is lack of awareness about benefits, salary structure’
The Staff Selection Commission has invited applications from the Karnataka and Kerala regions for recruitment to the posts of data entry operator and lower division clerk. The Combined Higher Secondary Level examination will be held on October 21 and 28 this year, on the basis of which candidates will be chosen.
Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, S. Gopalan, Regional Director of the Staff Selection Commission said: “The number of applications we receive from Karnataka and Kerala is less compared with other States.”
There is a lack of awareness among people about the benefits and salary structure in government jobs. Initial gross salary is close to Rs. 15,000 per month, he said.
Mr. Gopalan added: “People are not aware of the benefits and salary structure in Central government jobs. People who earn Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 8,000 a month elsewhere are content with their jobs and are sceptical about applying for Central government jobs as they are unaware of the benefits that come with it.”
In 2011, of the 20 lakh applications received from across the country, only 6,919 were from Karnataka. From the total number of applications, 2722 candidates were chosen. And, of the 73 lower divisional clerks appointed in Karnataka, only 19 are from the State.
When asked about the number of vacancies in this region, Mr. Gopalan said: “The number of posts are finalised just before we announce the results of the examination.”
