The Telangana statehood issue reigned in the recognised trade union elections of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) with the Telangana Boggu Ghani Karmika Sangham affiliated to TRS, a regional trade union emerging victorious for the first time in the history of Singareni trade union elections.
Telangana Rashtra Samiti legislators from Adilabad district Aravind Reddy and N. Odelu played a crucial role in the victory of TGBKS from Srirampur and Mandamarri divisions.
Similarly, Singareni JAC chairman Shankar Naik had helped the TGBKS victory in Kothagudem corporate office of Singareni in Khammam district.
Campaigning by Minister for Civil Supplies D. Sridhar Babu, Peddapalli MP G. Vivekanand and MLC Venkat Rao did not benefit the INTUC in the Ramagundam region.
It is interesting to note that Hind Mazdoor Sangh leader Riaz Ahmed singlehandedly ensured the victory of their trade union in RG-1 and RG-2 divisions in spite of absence of its working president Nayini Narasimha Reddy for the electioneering.
Incidentally, the Ramagundam divisions have the highest number of coal miners and highest investments have been made in entire Singareni collieries.
