MUMBAI: A teenaged student was murdered and his body dumped in a gutter in a Mumbai suburb, allegedly because his parents did not pay a Rs. 2 lakh ransom demanded by his kidnappers. The Mumbai police have arrested two students of a suburban college on charges of kidnapping and murdering their 17-year-old classmate.

A 19-year-old boy was arrested on Monday, while another teenager was picked up on Tuesday, the investigating officer, Khar police, Kathe said.

The boy’s parents, in their complaint filed at the Khar station on February 14, said their son, a 12th standard student, had been missing from their house since February 13.

The kidnappers allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs. 2 lakh. Police said the family dismissed the ransom demand as a prank and money was not paid. The boy’s body was found in a gutter behind a college at Vakola on Monday.

In 2007, a 16-year-old college student, a businessman’s son was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs. 2 crore and was found dead later. One of his classmates is alleged to have been involved in the crime to kidnap the boy and extort money from the family.
