Liaison panel to meet on June 20
The United Democratic Front (UDF), which has gained confidence after the Neyyattinkara Assembly by-poll victory, has decided to prepare a blueprint for the next one year's good governance programme.
The ruling coalition is holding a meeting of its liaison committee on June 20 to discuss in details of the programme. All Ministers have been invited to the meeting, with proposals of their respective departments.
UDF convener P.P. Thankachan said the coalition did not want to rest on its laurels after having won the Piravom and Neyyattinkara by-elections, which was clearly an acknowledgement of the UDF's good governance during the last one year.
“We want to assure the people that we would work unitedly as a team to present a good administration,” he said.
The meeting is likely to approve some major initiatives related to development and social welfare.
A review of the projects that had been initiated in the last one year would also be held.
But for the two by-elections, there would have been more focus on some of the projects, according to UDF leaders.
At a function organised to mark the first anniversary of the government recently, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had made a few announcements that would improve the efficiency of the government's functioning in a transparent manner, including digitalisation of the Secretariat.
He also announced free distribution of generic medicines for all sections of people and packages for the agriculture sector.
The UDF liaison committee would examine these proposals and give political clearance, sources said.
