Farmers of villages on the outskirts of Hassan who had given away their land for developing S.M Krishna layout, staged a protest in front of the Hassan Urban Development Authority (HUDA) demanding their land back. The land-losers staged a dharna under the aegis of the Udbhava Rameshwara Nonda Raitara Sangha. The protesters said that the HUDA acquired 453 acres of agricultural land in Bhoovanahalli, Sankenahalli and Doddapura villages for residential layout to be named after the former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna in 2001-02. However, the authority had not developed the layout.

Meanwhile, HUDA was granting portions of land to several government agencies. Sangha president B.R. Radhakrishna said that the land-losers wanted their land back and were willing to give back the amount they got as compensation when their land was acquired. They submitted a memorandum to HUDA president Navile Annappa.
