Six supporters of Madhusudan Gupta, Congress MLA for Guntakal in Andhra Pradesh undergoing treatment at a hospital here, were arrested after they allegedly manhandled a traffic constable on duty near Chikkajala on Bellary Road.
Mr. Gupta, who suffered serious injuries after he fell from a bus during a by-election campaign in Anantapur district on Friday, has been admitted in a private hospital here.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) G. Ramesh told The Hindu the men, from Guntakal, were on their way to the hospital in a sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Around noon, the traffic police on duty on Bellary Road stopped the speeding vehicle. One of the accused allegedly abused police constable Shivakumar for stopping their vehicle. Subsequently, all the six got down and allegedly manhandled the constable.
Complaint
On a complaint by sub-inspector Ramachandrappa, who was heading the traffic police team, the Chikkajala police arrested Ramesh, Ramanjinaiah, Dhananjaya, Mansoor Ahmed, Mallesh and Bhahdur Basha.
They were let off on bail later.
