MATHURA: Bhartiya Janata Party President Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said if National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government came to power at the Centre, it would announce a fresh scheme for farmers where all their loans would be waived off. He also promised them hassle-free loans at cheaper rate of interest.
Alleging that the loan waiver scheme announced by Congress-led UPA Government has failed to benefit majority of farmers, Mr. Singh said: “If voted to power, we will entirely waive off all pending loans and provide farmers loans at interest rates less than 4 per cent. We will also remove the mandatory provision of mortgaging land for loans for farmers.”
Addressing the NDA rally at this agrarian belt, Mr. Singh said UPA Government only concentrated on cities and townships and completely neglected farmers. “But we will take utmost care of them as they are the backbone of India’s economy,” he said.
Terming the alliance between BJP and Rashtriya Lok Dal as “historic”, Mr. Singh said it would not only bring a change in the Centre but would bring to an end to the non-performing BSP government in Uttar Pradesh.
BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley hoped that the new alliance in Uttar Pradesh would start a new chapter in the State. He blamed the BSP and previous Samajwadi Party governments for ruining the State. Referring to bomb blasts and terrorists attacks, Mr. Jaitley blamed the “weak government” at the Centre for this.
RLD chief Ajit Singh said the people of Uttar Pradesh would use the occasion to punish the Mayawati government for its misrule. “The BJP-RLD alliance had worked in the past and it will work this time too and bring NDA to power,” he added.
Mr. Ajit Singh’s son, Jayant Choudhary, is contesting from Mathura, a seat currently held by the Congress. The BJP-RLD alliance is aimed at garnering maximum votes in western UP, where RLD has good presence. BJP has left seven seats for RLD in the region.
