New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani on Thursday said contentious issues like the Ram temple should not be solved through legislation if the National Democratic Alliance came to power.

“Broadly, there is an agreement among NDA allies that issues like Ram temple at Ayodhya, a uniform civil code and Article 370 [special status to Jammu and Kashmir] should not be solved through legislation,” he told journalists during an orientation programme for journalists for Parliament coverage.

The Leader of the Opposition said he always tried to convince his party not to bring in ideological issues while formulating a Common Minimum Programme with the NDA allies. “I have been trying to persuade my party to understand that while making the Common Minimum Programme in this coalition era, you cannot bring in ideological biases.”
