Araria: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Saturday accused the NDA Government in Bihar of undertaking ‘slip-shod’ relief measures following last year’s devastation in five districts caused by the river Kosi.
“Though the Manmohan Singh Government mobilised thousands of crores of rupees for relief, it did not percolate to the needy due to bureaucratic corruption and slip-shod efforts by the State Government,” Mr. Gandhi, who had visited the affected areas, told an election rally in this district headquarter town bordering Nepal. He also accused the State Government of not properly implementing the UPA Government’s flagship programme National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
“We have made available huge funds to the State for execution of NREGA but the State Government has not been able to properly utilise it,” he alleged.
Without naming RJD president Lalu Prasad, his wife and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi or present incumbent Nitish Kumar, he said, “You have seen what became of Bihar over the past nearly 20 years but I am not disheartened. Bihar has huge potential for development.”
“Those who say Bihar cannot prosper are wrong. Vote Congress back to power and I assure you that we will usher in a new era of development,” Mr. Gandhi said. -- PTI
