NEW DELHI: The Congress on Friday questioned the propriety of Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda travelling to Jaipur with a section of his Cabinet.
Briefing the press here, party spokesperson Rajiv Shukla alleged that this amounted to abdication of duty. "The Chief Minister has vanished with his Government. Who is running Jharkhand?"
On Wednesday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi told reporters that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was concerned at the fact that for two days the Jharkhand Government had functioned from the Rajasthan capital.
Mr. Shukla said the Bharatiya Janata Party had accused the Congress of attempting to bring in an ordinance on the office of profit issue.
Yet the Jharkhand Assembly pushed through a Bill, whose primary purpose was to prevent the disqualification of National Democratic Alliance MLAs holding offices of profit. The Uttar Pradesh Assembly passed a similar Bill; its intention was to save "one person."
Mr. Shukla said the Opposition conduct reminded one of the saying Hum kare to punya, tum kare to paap (If we do it, it is a good deed, if you do it, it is a sin).
