TIRUPATI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday unveiled a bronze statue of the Carnatic maestro, M.S. Subbulakshmi, at the Poornakumbham circle in the temple town.
Dr. Reddy expressed his appreciation for the Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) for installing the statue of a great personality whose links with the temple town and the shrine of Lord Venkateswara remained indelible.
Dr. Reddy recalled how Subbulakshmi's mellifluous rendition helped popularise the "Sri Venkateswara Suprabhatham," the hymns chanted daily at the sanctum sanctorum at the Tirumala temple before daybreak. The "Suprabhatham" most certainly brought MS to one's memory, he said.
He said she had contributed all her income earned as royalty to the Lord's coffers.
