New Coast Guard chief

NEW DELHI: Vice-Admiral Rustom Faramroze Contractor has taken over as the new Director General (DG) of Coast Guard. A specialist in navigation and direction, he has held important operational and staff appointments both afloat and ashore. He has held the rare distinction of commanding INS Rajput, INS Ranvijay and the aircraft carrier, INS Virat.

Lt. Gen. Thomas Mathew has taken over as Adjutant General (AG) of the Army on Friday. In his new appointment, he will look after service conditions, manpower requirements, military justice, welfare housing projects and rehabilitation of personnel and widows. Gen. Mathew has taken part in Bangladesh operations and in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir and the northeast.
