Workers to get monthly pass for Rs.25
NEW DELHI: The Railways will launch on August 1 the “Izzat” monthly season tickets (MSTs) for Rs.25 to persons working in the unorganised sector with a monthly income not exceeding Rs.1,500.
Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced the scheme in her budget speech earlier in the month. The MST would include all surcharges and would be issued for travel up to 100 km.
According to the notification issued by the Railway Board, the income certificate could be issued to the beneficiary either by a district magistrate or sitting MP for persons of their constituency or divisional railway managers. The DRMs have been authorised to consider the claims of those holding BPL cards and recommendations of Union Ministers for anyone across the country and MPs for persons of their districts.
The respective station master has been authorised to issue the MST on the basis of the recommendation of the DRM.
The Railway Board has issued instructions to check against fraudulent use of this facility. The Board has also decided to enforce the enhanced concession for police personnel above the age of 60 who have received the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, from August 15. The enhanced concession will now be 50 per cent for men and 60 per cent in the case of women.
Concessions for amateur artistes (theatre, music, dance and magic troupes and students-artistes of the National School of Drama, New Delhi, when travelling alone or in group) will come into force from August 15.
As of now they are eligible for 50 per cent concession in First Class and 75 per cent concession in Second and sleeper classes.
From August 15, they can also avail themselves of 50 per cent concession in AC Chair Car, AC 3-tier and AC 2-tier classes.
