LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Government on Thursday sent a reminder to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for taking up the Faizabad Dalit girl, Shashi’s kidnapping case. The body of the girl, who was allegedly murdered after being picked up on October 22 last and thrown into the Gomti river in Sultanpur district, has not been recovered despite several attempts by police divers and boat men.

A former Minister in the Bahujan Samaj Party Government, Anandsen Yadav, is allegedly involved in her kidnapping. This has been denied by Mr. Yadav’s wife. Mr. Yadav allegedly had an affair with Shashi.

The Faizabad police arrested his driver, Vijaysen Yadav, on November 5, who later claimed that the girl jumped into the river. The former Minister was sacked on November 6 by Chief Minister Mayawati, who also recommended a CBI probe the same day. A letter in this regard was sent to the CBI the next day.

The former Minister has not been named in the two FIRs lodged with the Ayodhya police by the girl’s father, Yogendra Kumar.
