Kolkata: The CPI(M)’s decision to hold an emergency State secretariat meeting to discuss West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi’s statement on Nandigram did not go down well with Left Front partner Forward Bloc.
“I did not expect such treatment from the LF chairman. This is unprecedented,” Forward Bloc general secretary Ashok Ghosh said.
Mr. Ghosh said after getting news of fresh violence in Nandigram on Saturday, he called up Bose, CPI (M) State secretary, with a request to hold an urgent LF meeting.
“He told me he was busy, but promised to consider the request. However, he called me up some time later to say that the CPI(M) had already held an emergency State secretariat meeting.” Mr. Ghosh said, “I was taken by surprise. I asked him how his party could proceed unilaterally on the issue when the need of the hour was to call a LF meeting.” Mr. Bose, however, called up Mr. Ghosh after a few minutes and invited him for a discussion.
“I knew that the RSP had also asked for a LF meeting. So, I informed the RSP leaders accordingly. But when I reached the CPI (M) State party office for the meeting, I was shocked to hear that Mr. Bose had already held the media meet.
“I asked Mr. Bose why he had behaved in this way after asking me to come to his party’s office. I have never had such an experience during all these years of the LF,” Mr. Ghosh said.
Mr. Ghosh admitted that there were “misunderstandings” among Front partners. “There are misunderstandings. We have to remove them.” — PTI
