Islamabad: A Pakistan Minister was left “disappointed” on Tuesday after he was denied an Indian visa to watch a one-day international cricket match between India and Pakistan.

Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed intended to watch Thursday’s match at Mohali, but was informed by the Indian High Commission here that he could not be issued the required visa.

“They didn’t give any reason for not granting me the visa,” he said.

This is the second time in the last three years that Mr. Ahmed has been denied visa. The earlier instance was during Pakistan’s team’s tour in 2005.

“This time I had gotten an invitation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and even then they did not give me the visa at the eleventh hour,” he said.

No official from the Indian High Commission was available for comment. Mr. Ahmed said that he got permission from the Pakistan government to travel to India and watch the match. — AP
