SRINAGAR: Security forces shot dead a self-styled battalion commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in Handwara area of Kupwara district on Saturday, police said.
On a tip-off, police assisted by 30 Rashtriya Rifles, launched an operation at Shatagund Payeen in Handwara which ended in an encounter in which the self-styled battalion commander of LeT was eliminated, Superintendent of Police Hasseb Mughal said.
The slain commander was identified as Faisal alias Abu Osama of Pakistan who provided logistic support to the militant organisations and sent militants to Rajwar, Mawar, Kandi, Natnusa and Qaziabad areas of North Kashmir, Mughal added.
One AK-47 alongwith three magazines was recovered from the encounter site. - PTI
