Chennai: The All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam shares some points of the Sangh Parivar’s ideology, including opposition to dredging of Ram Sethu, but the time is not “ripe” for an alliance with the BJP, party supremo Jayalalithaa has said.

“The AIADMK is not in a hurry to forge an alliance with any political party at this time,” Ms. Jayalalithaa said in an interview to Times Now on Thursday.

Asked whether the Lok Sabha polls were round the corner, she said: “The situation is fluid. We do not know when the elections will take place. We do not know whether there will be general elections and simultaneous Tamil Nadu Assembly polls. We will discuss the issue of alliance at the time of elections.”

On DMK chief M.Karunanidhi’s charge that the AIADMK, along with the BJP and the Sangh Parivar, were out to stall the Sethusamudram project using the Ram Sethu issue, she said: “I’m not a part of the Sangh Parivar. I’ve no alliance with the BJP. We are an independent party with our own ideologies and convictions. This accusation is not relevant as far as my party is concerned.”

Denying that she had remained silent and allowed the BJP to take centrestage in the opposition to Mr. Karunanidhi’s remarks against Lord Ram, Ms. Jayalalithaa said she was one of the first to condemn the statement. “If a common man had made the remark, an FIR would have been filed against him by now and he would’ve been arrested...” — PTI
