NEW DELHI: The All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to accept the Mukherjee Commission report on the controversy surrounding the death of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, the AIFB on Friday demanded that the Government accept the fact that Netaji did not die in the “alleged plane crash” in Taiwan on August 18, 1945.

AIFB general secretary Debabrata Biswas met the Prime Minister with this demand along with other members of Parliament from the party.

In the letter, Mr. Biswas said it was unfortunate that his party – which is one of the four Left parties supporting the United Progressive Alliance Government from outside – “has been compelled to come in confrontation with the Government on such a sensitive and vital issue.”

Questioning the rationale behind the Government’s refusal to accept the Mukherjee Commission’s finding that the ashes in Japan’s Renkoji Temple were not Netaji’s, the Forward Bloc demanded withdrawal of the Action Taken Report that was tabled in Parliament last year.
