Indore: A person allegedly linked to a gang which shot dead a prisoner in the Mhow jail was arrested on Sunday, police said here.
“The police have detained a member of the gang that killed Jeetu Thakur. On the basis of leads provided by him, the probe is progressing,” police sources said.
Unidentified persons shot dead Thakur, convicted for murdering trade union leader Vishnu Ustad, and injured three others, including a head constable, inside the Mhow jail on Saturday.
Three police teams were sent to raid the “hideouts” of the attackers outside Madhya Pradesh, the sources said.
The police suspect that Thakur was gunned down by a member of the gang of Yuvraj Ustad, son of Vishnu Ustad.
They also suspect that Ashok Maratha, who escaped with the attackers in a car, committed a petty crime to be in jail. The police believe the move is part of a plan to settle scores with Thakur. — PTI
