NEW DELHI: Universities across the country will soon have to conform to a uniform calendar beginning at least by the first week of August with the announcement of results by the last week of June. However, a fortnight-long concession has been made in commencement of classes from the second year onwards for professional courses to factor in project work, summer schools and internship.

This decision of the University Grants Commission will be notified soon. A UGC-appointed experts committee drew up the schedule, in a bid to deal with complaints of migration and consequent litigation.

The Commission has since amended the UGC (Minimum Standards of Instruction for the Grant of the First Degree through Formal Education) Regulations, 2003.

According to a new clause, every university will ensure that classes for courses in subjects other than professional courses for first year students begin by the first week of August. From the second year onwards, the classes will have to begin by the third week of July.

Results for all years will have to be declared by the last week of June.
